Controls & Alerts

How do I begin Managing and Monitoring my debit card activity?
Log in to the mobile app and tap the card symbol in the top right corner. From there, you can:

  • Turn your card on or off
  • Set location-based and merchant-based controls
  • Set spending limits (weekly or monthly)

You can also enable real-time alerts based on:

  • Transaction type (in-store, online, mobile, ATM)
  • Merchant type (grocery, gas, department stores, etc.)

Can I set travel notices through Card Controls?
No. Travel notices must be set separately to ensure your card works outside your usual location. Please contact State Bank Financial to set a travel notice.

What is a real-time alert?
A real-time alert is a push notification sent immediately after a transaction. You can choose to receive alerts for all transactions or just certain types (based on spend limits, transaction type, merchant type, or location).

By turning my card off, am I closing my account?
No. Turning your card off only affects your card. Your account remains open and active.

Can I temporarily turn my card off if I misplace it?
Yes. If you misplace your card, you can immediately turn it off using Card Controls. If you find your card, simply turn it back on. This helps prevent unauthorized transactions without needing to cancel the card.

How long does it take for control or alert settings to take affect?
Changes to controls and alerts take effect immediately after you save your preferences.

Will recurring transactions be affected if I turn my card off?
Recurring (auto-pay) transactions may still be approved, unless you specifically turned off recurring transactions before turning off your card.

Do Card Controls work when I use my card with a digital wallet (e.g., Apple Pay or Google Pay)?
Yes. Controls and alerts will still apply to transactions made through digital wallets using your State Bank Financial debit card.

I turned my card on and set My Regional Shield, but my transaction was still declined. Why?
Make sure location services are enabled on your device and within the SBF Mobile App. Declines can also occur for other reasons like insufficient funds or fraud monitoring. For more help, contact State Bank Financial at 800-880-7151.

I’m not receiving alerts even though I’ve set them up.
Check your phone’s notification settings to ensure alerts are enabled for the SBF Mobile App. If alerts are disabled at the system level, the app can’t deliver them. For further assistance, contact State Bank Financial at 800-880-7151.

Managing the App

I got a new smartphone. How do I start using Card Controls again?
Download the app on your new device and log in with your existing credentials. Your control settings will remain, but you’ll need to reset your alert preferences.

What happens if I delete the app or reset my phone?
If you delete the app or reset your device, your control preferences will remain stored, but you will need to reinstall the app and log in to continue managing them. You may also need to reset your alert preferences.

What happens if I report my card as lost or stolen?
Once your card is reported as lost or stolen, it will be deactivated, and Card Controls will no longer apply. When you receive your new card, you'll need to re-establish your preferences.

I received a new card number. Will it automatically update in the app?
If you receive a brand-new card number, the new card will appear in the app, but you’ll need to re-establish your control and alert preferences.

If your card is reissued with the same number, your existing settings will remain intact.
