WHEDA is short for Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority and they are doing great things to help Wisconsin residents get into home ownership. WHEDA’s mission is to stimulate the state’s economy and improve the quality of life for Wisconsin residents by providing affordable housing and business financing products.
WHEDA has been around since 1972 and has helped over 122,000 families purchase a home in Wisconsin. Local lenders make the choice to become a WHEDA lender. “As a proud partner with WHEDA we’ve done several loans over the years,” said Carol Porath, Assistant Vice President, Mortgage Originator at State Bank Financial. Porath went on to share that State Bank Financial has been a WHEDA lender since August of 1991.
“Strong communities are healthy, vibrant and have permanent residents living in homes that they actually own,” said Porath. “The program is really, really strong and gives first time home buyers a multitude of options.”
Porath was referencing the first time home buyers benefits such as multiple mortgage options, a 3% down payment option, and “even the fact that your down payment could be gifted to you,” said Porath is unique. “WHEDA can really open the doors for home ownership,” said Porath.
