Here’s a Thought Leadership idea for you to consider. What if a local garden could bring together a community of volunteers and harvest over 34,000 pounds of produce to give away to people in need? Would that be awesome? Yes! We think so and so do a lot of others.
Believe it or not, last year this is exactly what the Kane Street Community Garden in La Crosse, Wisconsin did. They planted, cultivated and harvested over 34,000 pounds of produce and gave it all away for free to those in need. Pretty cool and better yet…you can help support the effort.
Join your community neighbors at the 7th Annual “Taste of the Garden” fundraising event on Thursday, August 17, at the Kane Street Community Garden. This event is brought to you by the Hunger Task Force and will be held from 5PM – 8PM. You can participate and help support this unique garden by purchasing a ticket for just $25.
Each year, the Hunger Task Force presents a fun evening of music, beer and wine tasting, plus samplings of food dishes from area restaurants inspired by the items grown in this community garden. There will also be guided tours of the garden, a silent auction, and a wine raffle. Funds raised by this event go towards supporting the Kane Street Community Garden and the Food Recovery Program to help eliminate hunger in our area.
Shelly Fortner, Executive Director of the Hunger Task Force, “The Kane Street Community Garden is really unique to our area. Along with adult’s and children’s gardening workshops, the program provides fresh, nutritious fruits and vegetables that help our friends and neighbors eat healthier.”
